First Annual Alexandria City 8th Grade Basketball
Championship

(Alexandria, VA, March 2008) Baroody Camps is pleased to
announce the creation of the First Annual Basketball
Championships for local 8th grade boys and girls in
Alexandria Independent Schools.  The participating schools
must have an Alexandria zip code and boys and girls
basketball teams with a full roster of players in 8th grade or
below. The tournament is single elimination and will take
place on Saturday, March 15th at Blessed Sacrament School,
beginning at 1:00pm.  Please come out and be part of a new
Alexandria tradition.

Pete Baroody created the tournament as a way to promote
the game of basketball in the city as well as bring the
different school communities together.  “I have taught at 3
schools in Alexandria and loved each one.  I thought that
each was so different and could benefit from time spent
together in a fun atmosphere. So, I invited the independent
and Catholic schools with Alexandria zip codes to compete for
the title of best 8th grade team in the city.”   Of the 9 teams
invited, four were able to commit to the extra games:  St.
Louis School, Alexandria Country Day, Saint Mary’s School,
and Blessed Sacrament.

Baroody camps is sponsoring the event and covering all fees
for venue space, insurance, referees, and t-shirts so that the
participating schools and spectators do not incur any costs.

Alexandria Championships

Both the boys and girls teams from Saint Mary's in
Old Town won their tournaments to claim the title
of Alexandria Champs.  Though both teams faced
tough competition in the championship rounds they
fought hard and won both comfortably.  They will
look to defend their crown next year in the
tournament's sophomore year.  Thanks to all of
the teams for participating and Congratulations to
Saint Mary's
